If you’re seeking things to do in Plettenberg Bay, Jukani Wildlife Sanctuary offers a unique opportunity to admire big cats, including Lions, Tigers, Leopards, Pumas, and Jaguars. These animals have been rescued or rehomed from facilities that could no longer care for them. At Jukani, they reside in a large, natural habitat designed to meet their individual needs, free from exploitation and human stress. This allows visitors to appreciate and photograph them in their natural splendor.
During an 80-minute walking safari led by knowledgeable guides, you’ll also encounter Raccoons, a Honey Badger, Caracals, Wild Dogs, Zebra, Springbok, and predators like the Spotted Hyena. Jukani is dedicated to educating visitors about the challenges facing apex animals.
Jukani operates as a no-touch, #HandsOff facility. Interaction with the wild animals is not permitted, and all animals are sterilized, so no babies will be seen during your visit. We reject the pet-play-and-pay industry practices and focus on educating visitors about animal rights and the harmful impacts of such irresponsible practices.
As part of the South African Animal Sanctuary Alliance (SAASA), Jukani is funded through responsible wildlife eco-tourism, balancing conservation with economic realities. The sanctuary is accessible to all ages and fitness levels and is wheelchair friendly.
Our Guided Safaris
We are open on all public holidays and in all weather conditions. Tours run every 15 to 20 minutes. Tours last around 80 minutes and depart from the Jukani reception area.
After your tour, you may wish to join additional tours at our sister sanctuaries or visit the Farmyard. The Farm shop offers cold drinks, coffee, tea, milkshakes, cold beers, light lunches, snacks and more. The little shop is also stocked with souvenirs. Our Vision
Our vision is to be a conservation-oriented organization dedicated to providing the best care and security for the wild cats in our care. We aim to educate the public about the challenges these animals face and promote wildlife conservation.
Quote by Lara Mostert: “Many places offer opportunities for wildlife selfies and interaction, but wild animals don’t thrive in chaotic environments and dislike being passed around. At SAASA, we reject these practices and focus on educating visitors about animal rights and harmful pet-play-and-pay practices. We advocate for the #HandsOffOurWildlife initiative to make a positive difference.”
Our Mission
- Maintain and manage a sustainable wildlife sanctuary for wild cats and other wildlife.
- Use the sanctuary to raise awareness about apex cats and other wildlife.
- Provide a permanent home for wild cats in need of sanctuary.
- Set a benchmark for other animal organizations.
- Emphasize that humanizing wild animals has no conservation value and is unethical.
