Plains Zebras - Equus Quagga – Also known as the Burchell’s Zebra is the one you will find at Jukani and is also the most widespread of the Zebra species. There are Mountain Zebras and Grevy’s Zebra (The largest of the 3 species)– Found in Ethiopia and Kenya. It is the smallest of the three species of Zebra.

Plains Zebra is a very social animal and there is usually a male with a couple of females and some young that form what is known as a harem

The Southern Plains Zebra have a distinctive brown shadow stripe between the black and white stripes and the further North that you find them, the less visible this stripe becomes. Body Stripes are broader and extend around the belly.

Typical of the horse family they have a gestation period of 11-13 months.

One of the favourite questions our guides like to ask visitors on the tours is whether they believe a Zebra to be black with white stripes or white with black stripes? Come prepared!
